WP5 Integrated modeling Print

The objective of WP5 is to couple the different models implemented in WP4 in order to produce integrated numerical simulations for the scenario studies in WP6. The numerical models developed and implemented in WP4 will be coupled in order to provide a tool to run integrated simulations of the entire system that includes Bojana river, the Ulcinj sewer system and the coastal area. The following couplings will be developed and tested:

  • Hydro-Meteorological and River Flow (HMRF)
  • METeorological and RIver Flow: statistics as mediator (METRI)
  • METeorological and Urban Waters (METUW)
  • Meteo, WAve, CUrrent, River and SEdiment model (WACUSE)
  • Meteo, WAve, CUrrent, River and TrAjectory model (WACURTA)
  • Meteo, CUrrent and BOkakotorska model (CUBO)

As far as the integration between Hydro-meto model and River Flow model, a statistical model to take into account the lake discharge into Bojana river will be developed. This model will be based on the interpolation between the discharge from Moraca catchment (output of Hydro-Meteorological model) and the flow entering Bojana river from Skadar lake. The statistical model will be calibrated using the measurements of year 2003, which are the only one available at a detailed scale.
The coupling of river basin with oceanographic models has already been established: in general, the input from the river basin to the oceanographic models (COASTAL STRIP MODELS) is represented by the water flow (m3/sec), the water quality concentration (mg/l) and/or mass flow (kg/sec) and the sediment transport rate (m3/sec). On the other direction, the input from the oceanographic models to the river basin is represented by the tide elevation (m asl) and the sediment elevation (m asl).
