WP3 In situ and satellite monitoring system

This workpackage should demonstrate the working of the permanent observing network system composed by the new automatic stations acquired for hydometeorology, river water flows and quality and the oceanographic monitoring network of the Montenegro coastal area in combination with satellite data sets.

Moreover the Work Package 3 intends to demonstrate the pre-operational working of a first in situ and satellite monitoring system for the Montenegro coastal area, considering the interactions between land sources of waters and materials, the hydrometereology of the region, and the oceanography of the coastal area.

Real time meteorological and hydrological data will be transmitted from automatic stations in the area of investigation to the server of HI-M using GPRS and GSM modems. Data will be auto-transmitted from data logger of automatic stations to the server of HI-M. Transitional data base for data transmission from automatic stations to the web server of Adricosm-Star project will be developed. New water quality monitoring station which started to work on the 15th of September 2008, allows CETI to collect the real time data every 1 hour using GPRS/GSM connection with server in CETI. The main goal is to collect new information of Bojana river, in order to fill the gaps found in WP1 as well as to apply river modelling for the river Bojana from Skadar lake to the delta area. All collected data will be available on the web page of CETI and from next year on the web page of Adricosm-Star. For the design of the monitoring system, a dedicated meeting and report will be produced toward the end of the project. The meeting and report will overview the components of the integrated monitoring system for waters set up in the project.

For what concerns the on going activities, the satellite product delivery in real time and in delayed mode, consolidated within previous projects, was maintained and improved with the addition of new delivered products available also on higher level formats, with the reorganization of the information system and of the tools for products’ search. Furthermore the VOS program is going on collecting precious data from the monitoring of the sea state and for the model validation.
